The 'Guild' in Guildwars
Hey, I've been playing Guildwars Prophecies for about a week now and I feel that with a bit of knowledge I can ask a few semi-intelligent questions. "Semi" being the qualifier here. I'm still in Pre-searing, and I'm going to take on the quest that switches you over today.
One thing I noticed from the beginning is other players wearing capes. Now from what I understand these are guild capes. Er... uh.... How do you get these? Do you wait until someone asks you to join their guild? I've seen new levels wearing these capes, so it doesn't seem to be based on levels. How does the whole guild thing work, because it hasn't had anything to do with the game thus far? Every so often I see a message on the left bottom of my screen that says Such-And-Such team won in the Hall of champions or something like that. The quest, adventuring and killing monsters part I get, but the 'guild' part I definitely don't. Sorry if this is a monumentally stupid question. -Falynn P.S. Where can I find red dye? I found in the Wiki that I should kill Stone and Hulking Stone elementals, but they're not dropping dye. Unfortunately, I'm not getting xp off Stone Elementals any longer. |

Welcome to Guild Wars.
Anyone can create a guild once they reach a certain stage in the game...It is hard to "start" a new guild and be successful since there are tons of guilds already in the game... So my suggestion would be to find a guild once you switch over into Post Searing... As to why some players have capes and others dont (even low level players) Once you join a guild your "account" is associated with that guild...not just your character...so if you create 4 characters everyone one of them will be in the same guild. So the low lvl players you see with guild capes are most likely players that have created a new character. If you join a guild..and don't like it...feel free to leave it and find another...most people will try several guilds before they find one they are comfortable with...myself I guild hop every 6 months or so. Red dye (all dyes) are random drops...granted some may drop from certain types of mobs more frequently but i am not sure on that....once you go to post searing...you can buy dyes from players or from the dye merchant (first one is in Old Ascalon) |

To join a guild, either look for people recruiting (probably in main towns and outposts) or ask around to join one. Someone will respond pretty quick. Also about the dye...dye is a random drop so you will have a very hard time finding a specific dye color from a drop. Once you leave pre-searing though, there are dye traders in towns from which you can buy dye from. As a beginner though, i would not worry too much about dying your armor at least until you get a max set of armor.

Thank you so much Coridan and Dutch Masterr. I've been playing RPGs for awhile now (just new to GW) so just a bit of information goes a long way. I've been reading Wiki a lot too for information and have found it to be very helpful.

You can get guild capes by either joining a guild that already has a cape, or by starting your own guild and designing a cape for it yourself (starting up a guild can be very expensive and it's difficult for new guilds to get other people to join sometimes, so you may want to go for the first option if you really want a cape). Also, if one of your characters is in a guild, all of your characters on your account will also be in that guild, so all your characters will be able to wear the guild cape.
The message about such and such winning a battle in the hall of heroes is part of the PvP section of the game. The hall of heroes is one of the pinnacles of GW PvP and it takes a lot of effort to get there. Winning in the hall of heroes used to win the favour of the gods so that your territory could get access to some of the elite parts of the game, although the old favour system has been scrapped (but the hall winners still get broadcast to everybody everywhere). And if you're looking for dyes, bear in mind that they are quite rare drops. Dye drops are most common in pre-searing though, so stick around and kill more monsters if you want more dye drops. After you go to post, you will find specialised dye traders who you can buy dye from; some colours are more expensive than others (I think red dyes are something like 400 gold each right now). |
